Tonight
I held the night at bay
While the wild demons
Rolled their eyes and
Denied the dark
I winced at god
And declared insane
The solid infants
Of my inner life
Sold to the innocence
Of so many hopes
Like solitary riders
Betwixt the ancients
Instead tonight
I smiled at Thebes
And corralled the horse
Of a thousand Greeks
For I was tired
And sought the solace
Of a new day
